Europe – is cheese wheel wedding cakes.
It reminds me of all those lovely restaurants that offer those classy
cheese platters on their dessert menu.
Personally, I’ve never opted for it, but I’ve been itching to try
it. It seems like a really fun way
to end a meal. So if cutting into
a big chunk of Gouda sounds like the perfect compliment to your wedding
reception, then you’re in luck because cheese shops here in America are
beginning to offer such options.
For instance, Murray’s in New York created a package specifically for
weddings.
“We view
weddings like wheels of cheese, each are unique and distinctive, and reflect
the character of the people involved in crafting them. Our wedding cake
program reflects this, as we customize each cake to the tastes (both literal
and figurative) of the bride and groom.”
If you’re serious about getting a cheese layer cake, Murray's
will do an initial survey over the phone to gauge your flavors styles and event
size, then they’ll invite you in to do a private consultation and tasting for
$100.00. At your tasting, there will be up to 20 wheels of cheese to view
and taste, as you collectively craft your wedding cake.
But, when it comes to payment, it’s a little up in the
air. The price of your cake is completely
dependent on the wheels that you choose. It’s important to note that
these are bare wheels. But as part
of the package, Murray’s will send information to your caterers and/or florists,
so that they can decorate and serve your cheese cake properly.
